Demolition trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the upcoming drama.
The new Demolition trailer has landed online. The new film, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead, arrives in cinemas this spring. The film will get its premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in March. Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper, and Judah Lewis also star in the film, which is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club).
Fox Searchlight debuted the new Demolition trailer, which you can see in our player below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.
Demolition is Vallée’s first film since his Academy-Award winning Wild, which starred Reese Witherspoon, but the director is also known for his previous efforts, that include the aforementioned Dallas Buyers Club and The Young Victoria. It seems that he has a thing for getting the best from his actors. Witherspoon was famously nominated the Oscar for Wild, while Matthew McConaughey won for ‘Buyers Club.’
We don’t know much about Gyllenhaal’s performance in this film, though word from Toronto, where it debuted last year was good; could this be his year? He certainly deserves it.
This one arrives in the UK on April 26th. Watch the Demolition trailer below.
