From ‘Double Jeopardy’ to ‘Twin Peaks’ for Ashley Judd

The cast for Showtime’s Twin Peaks reboot is getting juicier than a cherry pie at the series’ famous Double R Diner. With fans still buzzing from the news that creator David Lynch‘s former collaborator Naomi Watts is joining the ensemble, word comes via Deadline that Ashley Judd is rocking up in that small town filled with secrets.

Best known for her starring role in 1999 thriller Double Jeopardy with Tommy Lee Jones, the actress also appeared in Michael Mann‘s Heat with Robert De Niro and went on to have a short career as an A Lister. She was last seen in Divergent sequel Insurgent.

The revival has a penchant for Nineties stars it seems – Jennifer Jason Leigh, Heat co-star Tom Sizemore and now James Belushi have been linked to the project. Belushi took the lead in Wild Palms, one of the high concept small screen sagas that followed in Peaks‘ wake.

Deadline have been active in broadcasting news from the set, but it should be pointed out Showtime have yet to confirm much of the news. Reportedly the vast majority of the original cast are returning, led by Kyle MacLachlan as Special Agent Dale Cooper, the only actor to be officially announced. Add Amanda Seyfried to the mix and you have an intriguing blend of old and new.

Either way anticipation is higher than a kite in space for the massively belated third season, some twenty-five years in the making. Twin Peaks, written by Mark Frost & David Lynch and directed by Lynch is expected to arrive with an indeterminate number of episodes next year.

Steve is a journalist and comedian who enjoys American movies of the 70s, Amicus horror compendiums, Doctor Who, Twin Peaks, Naomi Watts and sitting down. His short fiction has been published as part of the Iris Wildthyme range from Obverse Books.
