The first Transformers film was genius. It had everything that a great summer blockbuster needed, action, adventure, amazing effects and a dash of comedy. Sadly the films that have followed in the series never lived up to the strong start, the second had far too much silly comedy and the third was all action, no story.
The third film wasn’t to be the end of the affair with those robots in disguise though and the franchise was rebooted, replacing Shia LeBeouf with Mark Whalberg. Unfortunately it was a muddled mess again, one that advertised robotic dinosaurs, but used them in all of one scene. Somehow, despite our loudest pleas, the series shows no signs of disappearing any time soon (it probably has something to do with all that money they make) and there is not one, but three more films in development.
Michael Bay is set to direct the fifth film only, and will then bow out and let someone else have a play with Optimus and his friends for six and seven. In case you were wondering, here’s when you should expect to be able to see each of the new films on the big screen:
Transformers 5 – 23rd June 2017
Transformers 6 – 8th June 2018
Transformers 7 – 28th June 2019
It’s unclear whether Wahlberg will return for film number five, but his name is currently listed on the project’s imdb page. Similarly there has been no plot details shared at this point, yet with only just over a year until the release we can’t imagine it’ll be long before the news start to trickle in.
Are you excited at the prospect of three more Transformers movies?
