Things are definitely heating up in Hell’s Kitchen. Hot on the heels of the latest Daredevil Season 2 Trailer, Empire Magazine has been speaking to The Punisher himself, The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal, about his role in the upcoming series.
Out to avenge a murdered wife and child, Frank Castle – aka The Punisher – isn’t burdened with the same moral questions as the heroic Matt Murdock. Rather than concerning himself with ethics and justice, Castle only has one thing on his mind: Retribution.
“Frank is so filled with rage and despair that this idea of a guy prancing around in a costume with little horns beating up bad guys is absurd to him. It’s ripe for a character like Frank to come in and shit on that. What’s really interesting is that these guys are absolute enemies, but they start to understand each other.”
Based on the footage we’ve been shown so far, it seems that Frank’s methods are mainly explosive and bullet-focused, definitely not something Matt Murdock would approve of. We’re certainly intrigued to see how their difference of opinion is resolved…
While they had his ear, Empire also asked Bernthal if he’d have any interest in the rumoured spin-off series for The Punisher.
“This guy is very much burned into my heart and soul, I think about him all the time. And I look at it the same way Frank would look at it. I’m a soldier, man. If they call on me, I’ll stand to attention and I’ll be ready.”
Nothing concrete yet then, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for more Punisher information in the coming months. With the news of Finn Jones‘ casting in Iron Fist and Daredevil Season 2 set to arrive on 18th March, there’s definitely plenty for fans of the Marvel-Netflix collaborations to get excited about.
