Don’t expect a sequel to ‘The Witch’, says director Eggers

The Witch

While we saw and reviewed the excellent horror movie The Witch a considerable amount of time ago at the London Film Festival, the film has only just come out in the US, and doesn’t debut in the UK for another couple of weeks. There’s some great buzz around the unsettling horror film, and rightly so, and thoughts are already turning towards potential sequels. Well, it seems that the film’s celebrated writer and director Robert Eggers isn’t keen on the idea. At all.

Eggers spoke with EW Radio’s Entertainment Weirdly show; “I think I’m stealing the words from another director I cannot place, but if I wanted to know what happens after the last shot of the film, I would have made a longer movie.”

We reported earlier this past week that Eggers has now turned his attention to other projects, including a major TV series based on the mad-monk Rasputin. That may not be the only thing on his radar however.

“I’ve been working on this medieval knight thing for over a year now,” he said in the same interview on EW. “It’s one thing to know how to build a goat shed. Building a castle? There’s a lot more parts for me to understand.”
