The Neon Demon trailer: Nicolas Winding Refn’s latest will feature in-competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May.
Nicolas Winding Refn has given us our first look at the Neon Demon trailer ahead of its debut at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
The film revolves around an aspiring model, Jesse, who moves to Los Angeles, where her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will use any means necessary to get what she has. Its Cannes debut was announced yesterday along with all of the other films that are part of the official selection.
The film follows Refn’s previous efforts Drive and Only God Forgives, both of which also debuted to a Cannes audience. The Neon Demon will also be in-competition at the festival, and will compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or as well as the other prizes. Refn famously won the best director award for Drive back in 2011.
Starring Elle Fanning (Somewhere, Malificent), Jena Malone (Inherent Vice, The Hunger Games), Abbey Lee (Max Max: Fury Road), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix) and Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Drive), The Neon Demon sees Refn reunite with Drive and Only God Forgives composer Cliff Martinez and editor Mat Newman. The film is produced by Lene Børglum and co-written by Nicolas Winding Refn, Mary Laws and Polly Stenham. Amazon Studios acquired the distribution rights to the film in November 2015, but Icon will distribute the film in the United Kingdom.
Our team will be out in Cannes for the duration of this year’s festival, so we’ll bring you all the news and a full review of The Neon Demon as it comes in.
The film will be released nationwide in UK cinemas in the summer of 2016.
