Hands Of Stone trailer: Edgar Ramírez, usher and Robert De Niro will star in the forthcoming boxing drama.
The first Hands Of Stone trailer has just dropped online. The forthcoming boxing drama will punch its way into cinemas later this year, and here’s our very first look at it.
Edgar Ramírez, Usher Raymond and Robert De Niro star in the film, which revolves around Roberto Durán who started boxing at the age of 16, and retired in 2002 at the age of 50. During that 34 year period, he managed a total of 70 knockouts.
Here’s the official blurb.
Hands Of Stone follows the life of Roberto Durán (Edgar Ramirez), the Panamanian fighter who made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16-year-old and retired in 2002 at the age of 50. In June 1980, he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond) to capture the WBC welterweight title, but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in their November rematch, famously saying the words “no mas” (no more).
Born on June 16, 1951, in El Chorrillo, Panama, Durán rose from poverty to become a famed professional boxer. Known for his punching power, he won world championships in four weight classes, though his reputation took a hit with his “no más” loss to Sugar Ray Leonard in 1980. Durán retired from boxing in 2002, and was elected to the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2006 and ’07, respectively.
De Niro plays Durán’s trainer, Ray Arcel, while the likes of Ana de Armas, Ellen Barkin, and John Turturro make up the rest of the cast.
