Warner Bros. moves ‘Godzilla 2’ to 2019

Warner Bros. Pictures have moved the follow-up to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 summer blockbuster Godzilla back to 2019. Godzilla 2 was set to hit cinemas in the summer of 2018, but it will now have a March debut on March 22, 2019.

Edwards is expected to return for Godzilla 2. The British director is currently hard at work on the first stand-alone Star Wars movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The studio have also set a release for Godzilla vs King Kong, which will be just 14 months later on May 29, 2020.

The 2014 Godzilla movie was a success for the studio having raked in a touch under $530 million around the world from a reported $160 million budget. Warners are placing a new King Kong movie, Kong: Skull Island for 2017, which will obviously lead into that huge face-off in 2020.
