New ‘The Light Between Oceans’ trailer tugs at the heartstrings

Get those hankies at the ready for this tearjerking trailer for The Light Between Oceans.

Light Between Oceans 2

Michael Fassbender has a busy year ahead of him. The actor is set to reprise his role as Magneto in the forthcoming X-Men: Apocalypse; he is leading Fox’s adaptation of Assassin’s Creed in December; he is set to film Alien: Covenant fairly soon too and he is starring in a little drama, alongside Alicia Vikander, by the name of The Light Between Oceans.

Hot on the heels of Fassbender‘s Oscar nomination for his stellar work in Steve Jobs last year and Vikander‘s Oscar win for her stellar turn in The Danish Girl, the pair are set to join forces with director Derek Cianfrance – who brought us both Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines – for the film adaptation of M.L Stedman‘s moving, bestselling novel of the same name. A new trailer for the film has released and it looks incredible. Cianfrance has a good track record with heartfelt, tear-jerking dramas and The Light Between Oceans looks like another one – if this trailer doesn’t tug at your heart strings, even somewhat, you’re not human.

Here’s your synopsis:

In the years following World War I, Tom Sherbourne (Michael Fassbender), a young veteran still numb from his years in combat, takes a job as lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, a remote island off the coast of Western Australia. As the island’s sole inhabitant, he finds comfort in the monotony of the chores and the solitude of his surroundings. When he meets the daughter of the school’s headmaster, Isabel Graysmark (Alicia Vikander), in the local town of Partageuse on the mainland, Tom is immediately captivated by her beauty, wit and passion, and they are soon married and living on the island. As their love flourishes, he begins to feel again, their happiness marred only by their inability to start a family, so when a rowboat with a dead man and infant girl mysteriously washes ashore, Isabel believes their prayers may have finally been answered. As a man of principle, Tom is torn between reporting the lost child and pleasing the woman he loves, and against his better judgment he agrees to let Isabel raise the child as their own, making a choice with devastating consequences.

Rachel Weisz will join Fassbender and Vikander to round off the cast and The Light Between Oceans hits the U.K on January 6th, 2017.

For as long as I can remember, I have had a real passion for movies and for writing. I'm a superhero fanboy at heart; 'The Dark Knight' and 'Days of Future Past' are a couple of my favourites. I'm a big sci-fi fan too - 'Star Wars' has been my inspiration from the start; 'Super 8' is another personal favourite, close to my heart... I love movies. All kinds of movies. Lots of them too.
