Can you believe it’s been over forty years since The Rocky Horror Picture Show first arrived in cinemas? The film / stage show has become a massive cult hit and still manages to sell-out both cinema screens and theatre halls. The film starred Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O’Brien, Meatloaf and Tim Curry and followed a young girl and her boyfriend as  they pay a call to the peculiar residence of Dr. Frank-N-Furter after breaking down.  With its zany fashion and catchy tunes the film had seeped its way into popular culture and there’s barely a wedding reception out there  that doesn’t play The Time Warp at least once.

Given the longevity of the film it’s a little surprising that anyone would want to touch it. But it seems that nothing in Hollywood is sacred anymore and The Rocky Horror Picture show is getting a revamp. The one off television event will air on Fox in the US on Halloween night and stars Orange is the New Black‘s Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a role made famous by the brilliant Tim Curry. Curry will once more feature this time as The Criminologist. Other newcomers include Adam LambertVictoria Justice and Penny Dreadful‘s Reeve Carney. A teaser has arrived to get you in the Halloween spirit early:

The production is being directed by Kenny ‘High School Musical‘ Ortega. Ortega is no strange to remaking a beloved classic having already brought Footloose bang up to date. He’s also recently been announced as the man to lens a new Dirty Dancing film.

The Rocky Horror Show airs in the US on Halloween night aka 31st October.
