There’s a New Scott on the Block: ‘Morgan’ Trailer Lands

Luke Scott has a lot to live up to. He’s the son of Ridley Scott and the nephew of the late Tony Scott. Both have a strong set of films and so it’s either bold brilliant or naive stupidity that made the youngest Scott decide to give the directing gig a whirl. Thankfully from the first glimpses of his feature Morgan he seems to have inherited his father’s panache for science fiction.

It’s a pretty starry cast for a first time feature but obviously the Scott name brings actors running. Actors present include Kate MaraAnya Taylor-JoyToby JonesBoyd Holbrook, Rose LeslieMichelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Paul Giamatti.

The project has been shrouded in secrecy, no mean feat in today’s spoiler mad society, and all we know about the story is what the synopsis has revealed:

A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly Scott teases the themes that Morgan will deal with:

“What ‘Morgan’ really alludes to is human beings becoming, in a sense, the creator. Not in a traditional religious sense, but an idea that we have the capabilities to become our own creator. And what I suspect could happen — we’ve seen it in all these movies, whether it’s ‘Frankenstein‘ or ‘Metropolis‘ — it’s the creation of a being that is greater than the creator,”

Could this be the Ex_Machina follow up that we’re craving?
