The Sicario sequel has been given a green light, and a director to take on the project has been named. Stefano Sollima (Gommorah) will take on directing duties on the new film, which is called Soldado.
Deadline reports that both Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin will return for the sequel, which will start production very soon. Emily Blunt, however, will not return as she’s off to make the sequel to Disney’s Mary Poppins.
The trade blog reports that the film will follow Josh Brolin’s CIA agent Matt Graver, who in the first film established themselves as hellbent on hunting down cartel kingpins, no matter what. Taylor Sheridan will also return to pen this film’s screenplay.
Shooting is set to commence this autumn. More as we get it.
