The Tracking Board are reporting that Sacha Baron Cohen is set to play Mandrake The Magician in a new film based on the comic strip of the same name. The film is based over at Warner Bros. and Etan Cohen is set to direct.
Mandrake The Magician is a syndicated newspaper comic strip, created by Lee Falk. Mandrake began publication on June 11, 1934. Phil Davis soon took over as the strip’s illustrator, while Falk continued to script.
A film version has been long in the works, and the most recent drafts of the script were completed by David Peoples and Janet Peoples and Puss In Boots writer Tom Wheeler.
The property was adapted for a 1954 TV movie starring Coe Norton, and Columbia Pictures’ Mandrake, The Magician in 1939, starring Warren Hull.
No news on when the new film will start production, but we’ll keep you updated.
