Yes, you read that headline correctly. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Swiss Army Man directors Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan have revealed that they would really like to remake the Wayans brothers’ White Chicks… as an R-rated movie.
Scheinert had this to say to the trade:
“Oh! One of my dreams is to make White Chicks as a hard-R, Oscar-worthy drama, starring the original cast. It would be about gender and race relations in the 21st century, starring the Wayans Brothers. I don’t know if you have seen White Chicks lately, but it has a lot of meat to it and explores everything, like class, gender, race, the handicapped, age.”
We spoke with Marlon Wayans about a potential sequel in an interview for his last comedy 50 Shades Of Black a few months ago, where he pretty much said that there were no plans for any kind of sequel (right now). “Everybody wants it. I gotta talk to my brothers to see what they wanna do… but I’m down,” he said.
Does Schienert’s comments change this? We’d certainly hope so.
