Woody Allen‘s Cafe Society opened the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and now Warner Bros. have release both the first trailer and the first UK poster for the comedy/ drama, which hit cinemas in September. Catch the Cafe Society UK trailer below. First, the film’s synopsis.

Jeannie Berlin, Steve Carell, Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Kristen Stewart, Corey Stoll and Ken Stott are amongst the glittering cast.

Set in the 1930s, Woody Allen’s bittersweet romance CAFÉ SOCIETY follows Bronx-born Bobby Dorfman (Jesse Eisenberg) to Hollywood, where he falls in love, and back to New York, where he is swept up in the vibrant world of high society nightclub life.

Centering on events in the lives of Bobby’s colourful Bronx family, the film is a glittering valentine to the movie stars, socialites, playboys, debutantes, politicians, and gangsters who epitomised the excitement and glamour of the age.

Cafe Society review

Cafe Society

Poignant, and often hilarious, CAFÉ SOCIETY, a film with a novel’s sweep, takes us on a journey from pastel-clad dealmakers in plush Hollywood mansions, to the quarrels and tribulations of a humble Bronx family, to the rough-and-tumble violence of New York gangsters, to the sparkling surfaces and secret scandals of Manhattan high life.

With CAFÉ SOCIETY, Woody Allen conjures up a 1930s world that has passed to tell a deeply romantic tale of dreams that never die.

We were lucky enough to see the film at Cannes, and you can check our full Cafe Society review at the end of the link. Here’s a taster.

Essentially a romantic comedy, which is where Allen is usually at his best, Café Society shines brightest when its two leads are on-screen together. Eisenberg and Stewart, who appear in their third film together following the superb Adventureland and the distinctly average American Ultra from last year, are both supremely excellent, particularly Stewart, who delights and engrosses for every single moment that she is on-screen. Carell too, in a surprisingly expanded part, expertly nails the role of the super-agent from yesteryear; another example of his acting chops that go much further than his solid comedic turns.

Check out the Cafe Society trailer below, along with its one-sheet poster. The film hits on September 2nd.
