Uncharted movie: Joe Carnahan will write the latest draft of the screenplay.
The Uncharted movie will probably enter production in early 2017.
NARC and The A-Team director Joe Carnahan is on board to make an Unchartedmovie, based on the popular video came series of the same name.
Variety is reporting the news of Carnahan boarding the Uncharted movie project, but only as a screenwriter. According to the trade, Carnahan is only on board the project to write a new draft of the script, but they also quote him in saying that he would also love to direct it. However, there’s a problem as its shoot will potentially clash with the production of Bad Boys 3, which is set to shoot in the first part of 2017.
“In a perfect world I would love to do both, but right now, I’m only on board to write the script,” he said to the trade.
Uncharted revolves around the character of treasure hunter Nathan “Nate” Drake as he travels around the world to uncover various historical mysteries. The property has already spawned a number of sequels across multiple platforms. The series consists of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. There’s also the prequel Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which was released on Sony’s PlayStation Vita, the card game spin-off Uncharted: Fight for Fortune. The fourth installment of the series, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, was released on the PlayStation 4 on May 10, 2016.
It seems that Carnahan is amped for the Uncharted movie.
“Archaeology today is in itself an antiquity, but that world has always fascinated me. Especially when you go to a museum today and wonder how a piece got there to begin with,” he said. “Plus, the property itself is so popular that it was hard to turn down an opportunity to work on it.”
No word on who will direct this for Sony, or when the cameras will roll. We’re guessing 2017, hence the clash with the long mooted Bad Boys 3.
