Nowadays online casinos and bingo sites are to be looked out for. The world of the casino with its elegance and extravagance is ripe for influencing movies. With the darker side of the gambling world also equally as powerful, we get to see not only the fun that gambling can be, but also the evil that can come from it. We’ve seen examples of this in some big Hollywood movies. With that in mind here are a list of some of the best gambling based movies well worth your time:
Casino
Casino starring Robert DeNiro and directed by Martin Scorsese is a spiritual sequel of sorts to Goodfellas. Showing how the mobsters used the growth of the Casinos to help feed money into their business it also showed the darker side. Somewhat a story of the downfall of DeNiro’s character, it is still easy to get caught up in the extravagant world of the Casino and its romantic façade.
Casino Royale
The film which cemented Daniel Craig’s legacy as James Bond, one of its major scenes is based around a high stakes poker game which almost takes the life of the agent with a license to kill. Quick thinking saves his life, allowing him to continue the game, but it is a close call that makes for some tense few minutes.
Ocean’s Eleven
The story of Danny Ocean and his group of eleven vagabonds taking on a Las Vegas casino heist, and robbing them is a classic, but in two versions. Whether you are a fan of the Frank Sinatra version or George Clooney, both are good. Though for our tastes, the Rat Pack do have an edge when it comes to being cool.
Ocean’s Twelve
This sequel to the remake starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney is one of the few sequels that actually managed to equal the original. Taking the heist to Europe it featured a different style, and even higher odds, though of course it is no surprise Ocean wins out in the end.
Rounders
Matt Damon is one of the memorable characters from Ocean’s Eleven, and he seems to have a taste for gambling movies. In Rounders though the stakes are different as he plays a reformed gambler being pulled out of the world he tried to escape, to win one last big stakes game.
21
A story about card counting at first doesn’t seem the most interesting of movies to watch. 21 though is surprisingly good, telling the tale of six MIT students trained to become experts in the subject. Then going to Vegas they use these skills with the aim of winning millions.
Lock Stock and Two Smocking Barrels
Arguable the film that put Guy Ritchie on the road to success, this story of a card game gone wrong spirals even further out of control. Featuring a crazy set of characters including weed growers, mobsters and of course some old school gangsters the influence of The Italian Job was strong in this one making it a modern day classic.
These seven are just a taste of the gambling movies that can be watched now. Whatever your taste in gambling, there is sure to be something to fit your taste in this fine list of movies.
