The Big Lebowski spin-off? John Turturro is apparently in New York filming a movie featuring his character, Jesus Quintana.
The Big Lebowski spin-off is apparently just a couple of weeks into production.
Updated 19th August – We’ve just added the official press release to the bottom of the post.
John Turturro is currently in New York State filming a new movie entitled Going Places, but sources over at Birth.Movies.Death are are reporting that the film is actually a spin-off from The Big Lebowski featuring Turturro’s popular character Jesus Quintana.
The indie flick, which also stars Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou and Susan Sarandon, is actually a remake of the 1974 comedy Les Valseuses which starred Gérard Depardieu. Here’s the official synopsis of that particular movie:
Jean-Claude (Gérard Depardieu) and Pierrot (Patrick Dewaere) are crooks. They’re not experts, but they’re competent enough to make their way through France by knocking over stores and lifting cars. They also have plenty of sexual conquests, including one with the young, attractive Marie-Ange (Miou-Miou), and the older ex-con, Jeanne (Jeanne Moreau). But the duo isn’t simply suave; in addition to their crimes, they mistreat women without regret — which could come back to haunt them.
BMD report that Joel & Ethan Coen aren’t creatively involved in the project, which is in its second week of production, but this is altogether exciting news nonetheless.
While the likes of Roger Ebert didn’t give the original that high a praise (he branded it ‘the most misogynistic movie I can remember; its hatred of women is palpable and embarrassing’, but we’re hopefully expecting very different things from Turturro’s version.
We wait with anticipation, which could be a while as, according to sources, the film doesn’t yet have a distributor.
More news on The Big Lebowski spin-off, if we’re allowed to call it that, as it comes in.
Let’s remind ourselves of this legendary character from this classic movie.
Let me tell you something, pendejo. You pull any of your crazy shit with us, you flash a piece out on the lanes, I’ll take it away from you, stick it up your ass and pull the fucking trigger ’til it goes “click.”
