Disney adapting ‘James and the Giant Peach’; Sam Mendes may direct

It looks like Disney are set to adapt the classic Roald Dahl novel James and the Giant Peach and are eyeing Skyfall and Spectre helmer Sam Mendes to direct.

Trade bible Variety reports that Mendes is in “very early” negotiations with the studio to bring the classic story to the screen. They also report that Nick Hornby is also in preliminary talks to write the screenplay.

Here’s the official book synopsis for the classic story.

James Henry Trotter lives with his two horrid aunts, Spiker and Sponge. He hasn’t got a single friend in the whole wide world. That is not, until he meets the Old Green Grasshopper and the rest of the insects aboard a giant, magical peach! James and the Giant Peach was Roald Dahl’s first classic novel for children.
