Las Vegas – More Than Just a Casino City

When someone says Las Vegas, the very first thing that comes to everyones minds is casino, gambling and the amazing nightlife that the city has to offer. Las Vegas is famous for its casino hotels and the Las Vegas Strip.

It is also home to some of the biggest names in the gambling industry like the Bellagio, Caesars Palace and Palazzo. In fact, some of the casinos even have their online versions where you can make a deposit by phone bills and start playing your favourite casino games online.

But Las Vegas is more than just The Gambling Capital of the World; many movies have been shot here. Whether inside the casinos or on the Las Vegas strip, it has served as a backdrop for several hit movies and television shows.

Here are a few films that are based in Las Vegas.

#1-Domino

Inspired by a real-life bounty hunter from a well-to-do family, Domino is based on Domino Harvey. She was a fashion model turned bounty hunter and was the daughter of English screen and stage actor, Laurence Harvey. The movie has many scenes filmed in different parts of Las Vegas like the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino, Stardust Resort and Casino’s Starlight Lounge and at the intersection of Sahara Avenue and South Las Vegas Boulevard. The movie released in October 2005 after the death of Domino Harvey due to an overdose of fentanyl in June 2005.

#2-The Hangover

With a tagline, Some Guys Just Cant Handle Vegas, The Hangover is an American comedy film starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis in the lead roles. It was a commercial as well as a critical success. It also became the 10th highest grossing film of 2009.

Shot at Caesars Palace, The Hangover follows the trials and tribulations of three friends who are unable to find their fourth friend who is the groom after a wild night in Vegas. With the wedding taking place the next day, its a race against time to find the groom and make it to his wedding day back home and on time. With absolutely no recollection of what happened the previous night, the trio use clues to retrace their steps to the happenings of the previous night. This forms the premise of hilarious events that unfold one after another.

#3-Jason Bourne

An American action movie, Jason Bourne was released in July 2016. This is the fifth instalment of the Bourne film series and stars Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, a former CIA assassin. This movie revolves around Bourne who is on the run from the CIA hit squads as he is trying to uncover some hidden truths about his father. This movie has been shot on The Strip. In fact, the producers had requested Clark County officials to shutdown Las Vegas Boulevard for many hours a day for seven to ten days shooting.

This movie has received some mixed reviews from critics. However, its main stars, Matt Damon and Alicia Vikander were nominated for Choice Movie Actor: AnTEENcipated and Choice Movie Actress: AnTEENcipated respectively for the 2016 Teen Choice Movie Awards.

There are many more movies that were shot here and Las Vegas will always remain a favourite destination among the producers and directors for many more movies and TV shows to come!
