#1-Casino
An all-time classic casino movie, Casino starred Sharon Stone, Robert De Niro, James Woods and Joe Pesci in the lead roles. Directed by Martin Scorsese, it was released in 1995 and is an epic crime drama film. It revolves around two Las Vegas based mobsters. One is trying to build a respectable career and name in the gambling industry and the other one is completely obsessed with greed.
#2-Rounders
Directed by John Dahl and starring Matt Damon and Edward Norton, Rounders is a 1998 American drama film. After losing his entire bankroll worth $30,000, Damon finds himself in debt. A gifted poker player, he needs to earn the cash quickly so he can pay off the debt. Although the movie opened to mixed reviews, the popularity of Texas Hold’em and other poker games at that time, it became a cult hit.
#3-The Sting
An American caper film, The Sting is set in September 1936. Starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman as professional grifters, they are out to con a mob boss played by Robert Shaw. This story is inspired by real-life cons committed by brothers Charley and Fred Gondorff.
This movie was a huge hit back in the day. It was nominated for 10 Oscars and won seven of them including Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture at the 46th Academy Awards.
#4-Ocean’s Eleven
The first one in the series of Ocean’s Trilogy, Ocean’s Eleven is an American heist film with lots of comical moments. Released in 2001, it turned out to be the fifth highest-grossing movie in that year. This movie was a remake of the 1960 Rat Pack movie of the same name. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, this movie included big names like George Clooney, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Don Cheadle.
#5-The Cincinnati Kid
Based on the novel by Richard Jessup of the same name, The Cincinnati Kid is a 1965 American drama film. The movie is based on the character, Eric Stoner, also known as The Kid. He is a poker player in the Depression-era and seeks to establish his reputation as the best player. Starring Steve McQueen in the title role, Edward G. Robinson and Joan Blondell in supporting roles, this movie was directed by Norman Jewison.
#6-21
Released in 2008, this movie stars Kevin Spacey as an MIT professor. This movie is inspired by the true story of the MIT Blackjack Team. This team consisted of students and ex-students from Harvard University, Harvard Business School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other such leading colleges who got together and used card counting techniques and other sophisticated strategies to beat the casinos at blackjack.
