The Joker voted most popular superhero villain amongst British public

The Joker has been voted the most popular superhero villain amongst the British public in a new survey conducted by HMV. The bad guy, most recently portrayed by Jared Leto in this summer’s DC villains film Suicide Squad, received 44.6% of the public vote, compared to fellow Batman rogue The Penguin, who received 21.5% of votes from the 2000 people surveyed.

In third place was The Riddler, also a DC villain, who got 19.5% of the vote. All three can also be seen as their younger selves in the TV series Gotham, which is about to enter its third season.

In terms of superheroes themselves, Superman was the most favourite with 37% of the poll (744 votes), closely followed by Batman with 32% (649 votes). The two comic-book favourites met on screen for the first time in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which debuted in cinemas back in March.

As part of the poll, the public were also asked a variety of other questions, including what they would use super-powers for if they were suddenly given them? Their response was split between saving lives and ‘general enjoyment.’
