Ben Affleck has officially unveiled the official title of his forthcoming Batman movie, and it is exactly what we expected it to be – The Batman. Work on Justice League is now done and Affleck has been out and about promoting his next movie to hit cinemas, The Accountant. The film stars Anna Kendrick and fellow Justice League actor J.K. Simmons and will debut in British cinemas at the beginning of next month.
The Accountant arrives slightly sooner in the United States and Affleck was speaking with the Associated Press, where he confirmed that “[his Batman] movie I think is going to be called The Batman. At least that’s what we’re going with right now. I might change it…” The actor and filmmaker also confirmed that they are very much at the script stage saying “we’re working on the script, the script is going well, I’m really excited about it”.
What was interesting is that Affleck also commented on this year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which faced criticism because of its tone.
“It’s interesting”, Affleck added. “It was a huge hit movie – more people went to see that than any movie I’ve made in my career. It was the biggest hit of my career and then it had so much editorial negativity. Fans went, and I got a lot of positive response. It was interesting, that movie, because it was judged not necessarily on execution so much as on its tone”.
“People seemed to want to have a lighter tone to the movie, and I thought that was interesting”, he continued. “Tone is not a qualitative thing. It’s subjective, right? Some tones resonate with me that might not with you. And the tone of the movie was really parallel to the Frank Miller book [The Dark Knight Returns], which I liked and thought was great. I’m glad that so many people went and so many people liked the movie”.
The Batman will probably hit cinemas in 2018, but that hasn’t been confirmed by Warner Bros. as yet. We’ll keep you updated though. More as it comes in.
