Mulan is getting the remake treatment over at Disney and the Mouse House have already set a release date for it. The film will hit cinemas sometime in 2018 following next year’s Beauty and the Beast, which stars Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.
Mulan will, of course, be based on Disney’s 1998 movie of the same name. Here’s the plot.
Fearful that her ailing father will be drafted into the Chinese military, Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) takes his spot — though, as a girl living under a patriarchal regime, she is technically unqualified to serve. She cleverly impersonates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits. Accompanied by her dragon, Mushu (Eddie Murphy), she uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way.

The studio is launching a global casting search for a Chinese actress to play the legendary female heroine.
The news of Mulan hitting the big-screen in live-action form comes just days after Disney revealed that Jon Favreau will direct a new version of The Lion King. That film doesn’t have an official release date as yet. Mulan is the latest to be added to a long list of live-action remakes, of which there are far too many to name here.
Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World) are said to be re-working a spec screenplay that the studio bought last year. There’s no director attached to the project as yet – but prepare yourselves for a big name as, along with Favreau, the likes of Kenneth Branagh and Bill Condon have worked for the studio in the past/ present (for Condo who will helm ‘Beauty’).
The new Mulan film will hit cinemas on Nov. 2, 2018, so pretty much exactly two years from now.
