An American Werewolf In London remake has been confirmed. Rumours were reported earlier this year that a redo of the classic 1980s John Landis-directed horror was on the cards, and now it looks like we’ll see a new version for sure.
Deadline reports the news that The Walking Dead‘s David Albert and Robert Kirkman are producing the new movie, which is set up at Universal Pictures. The good news is that Landis’ own son Max Landis is writing the update and will direct for the studio.
The 1981 original revolved around David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne), two American college students, who are backpacking through Britain when a large wolf attacks them. David survives with a bite, but Jack is brutally killed. As David heals in the hospital, he’s plagued by violent nightmares of his mutilated friend, who warns David that he is becoming a werewolf. When David discovers the horrible truth, he contemplates committing suicide before the next full moon causes him to transform from man to murderous beast.
The original is 35 years young this year, but the remake won’t obviously arrive in cinemas until at least 2018. American Werewolf in London spawned a sequel, American Werewolf in Paris in 1997, which didn’t do so well. The first film is famous for its cult status and outstanding practical make-up effects, including the famous transformation scene which bagged Rick Baker an Academy Award.

The American Werewolf In London remake, which John Landis will executive produce, doesn’t have any further details attached to it presently, but as ever, we’ll keep you updated.
