Dumbledore back for ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’, says director David Yates

It looks as it the character of Professor Dumbledore will be back on screens for the sequel to this month’s Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. The film’s director, David Yates, who will also helm the sequel, was speaking to ScreenRant during the junket for the first Fantastic Beasts movie, where he confirmed the news.

The character was played by Richard Harris in the first Harry Potter movie, and then Michael Gambon in the sequels. A new actor will be sought for the FB sequel as it will take place many decades before the release of the first Potter.

Here’s what Yates had to say.

“In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good. [Laughs]”

Fantastic Beasts 2 has Johnny Depp already confirmed for the cast and the film is said to be being set in Paris. Plot details aren’t specifically known, but the story is said to move deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world.”

Shooting starts in the new year for a 2018 release. More as it comes in.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them opens on 17th November 2017. Here’s the synopsis:

The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
