Shooting has kicked off on Pacific Rim 2 and an official title has been revealed. The film will be titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, and will star John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian and Levi Meaden.
Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Marvel’s Daredevil) is directing this time around, taking over from Guillermo del Toro, who produces. Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) wrote the script for the sequel.
Boyega plays the role of the son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba role in the original film), but not much more is known about the story. Boyega himself did share an image of the cover of the screenplay though (which confirmed its title).
The original film took $411 million around the world, the majority of which came from the far east. The sequel is scheduled to arrive on February 23, 2018. More as it comes in.
