The latest Jason Bourne movie was seen as a huge success despite some slightly middling reviews this past summer. Having brought in over $400 million in cash for Universal, talk is very much turning to potential sequels, something that producer Frank Marshall has been talking about with Yahoo! Movies.
It seems that if there were even to be sequels, it would involve both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass. Here’s what he had to say.
“I have spoken to them both. Obviously they’re very pleased with how the movie turned out. It’s really about the story, just like on this one, everyone said ‘if you come to us with a good story, we’ll think about it.”
“So right now, we’re taking a pause and then we’re going to dive back in and try to find a story. We did leave it wide open at the end of the movie to continue on in Bourne’s world so we’ll see what we can come up with.”
Of course, there is another potential Bourne franchise out there; one that involves Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross, who we saw in The Bourne Legacy a couple of years back. Marshall commented on potential future outings for that ‘sidequel’. It doesn’t sound as promising.
“That story is still out there as well but it’s not… we’re not talking about it.”
In a totally separate interview with Cinema Blend, Marshall also talks potential crossovers between the two character. Again, not good news.
“No, not really. I think they are separate characters, and I don’t think we’re ever going to see them together.”
The latest Bourne movie, Jason Bourne, is out on digital download, Blu-ray and DVD now (read our review here). We’ll keep you posted on a Jason Bourne sequel as more news becomes available to us.
