Netflix UK December releases

It’s officially Christmas now – well, it’s December 2nd and we’ve already watched Die Hard twice so it must be. With festive cheer comes a ton of treats on everyone’s favourite streaming platform, Netflix this month, and we’ve trawled through the bunch of movies and TV shows hitting the provider during the month of December. Here are some of the stand-outs.

Streaming as of the 4th December is the Meryl Streep-led musical movie Into The Woods, which we recommend you check out – just for James Corden singing (he’s rather good), as well as some great turns from Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp and Anna Kendrick.

A couple of days later, on the 10th December, you can feast of a very different sci-fi film starring Harrison Ford, Ender’s Game, a film which is nowhere near as bad as you remember it to be. On the 11th, a Sunday, so you know, loads of time to kick back and watch a movie, is the Charlie Kaufman stop-motion animated film Anomalisa, and then on the following day, Netflix throw the brilliant western-horror Bone Tomahawk our way – just don’t watch it alone.

On 13th December you can watch Killswitch, a documentary film about the battle for control over the Internet, and then the recently released Joe and Caspar Hit The Road, as well as the Jesse Owens biopic Race.

Sprint forward to the 20th and feast your eyes on the dazzling performances of Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain in the crime movie A Most Violent Year, and then on the 22nd the brand new Werner Herzog documentary Lo And Behold: Reveries Of The Connected World, which we reviewed at the recent London Film Festival. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire also debuts that day.

Onto the 23rd December when Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters season 1 hits the streaming service. The American/Mexican computer-animated web television series was created specifically for Netflix and we cannot wait to see it.

On Christmas Eve you have the choice between the Hayden Christensen-starrer American Heist or the truly dire Diana.

However, Christmas Day is a little better with Iron Man 3 finally hitting the small screens via Netflix. Two days later, once you’ve got over the big day’s hangover, you can sample the delights of the very violent and bloody scary Green Room with Patrick Stewart and the late, great Anton Yelchin, and then the brill Big Top Pee Wee on December 28th.

The Intervention, a superb little indie film from Clea DuVall, which delighted Sundance this year, follows on December 29th, and then the Mark Wahlberg redo of The Gambler premieres on the 30th.

If you’re staying in on New Year’s Eve, fear not as Netflix have two stunning debuts planned; the hilarious Hunt For The Wilderpeople and Ira Sachs’ coming of age drama Little Men, two films that got the five-star treatment here on the website.
