Martin Scorsese talks ‘The Irishman’ and his unfinished business with De Niro

Martin Scorsese has been on the promotional trail for his new film Silence, and has been speaking about upcoming projects, notably The Irishman, which will re-team him with his Goodfellas and Casino star Robert De Niro.

The film is based on the book ‘I Heard You Paint Houses’, and should go into production next year. Scorsese caught up with the Toronto Sun, and briefly spoke about the project.

“You know,” Scorsese said, “De Niro and I have some unfinished business, so it looks like that might be next!”

“We’ve been trying for years to do something again, since Casino, but we’ve never got the right story. This seems to be the right one.”

De Niro, said Scorsese, “had tears in his eyes when he described this to me, and I think I know how to do it.”

The Irishman, which is reportedly costing around $100 million, will also star Al Pacino, so expect to see the two greats on-screen together for the first time since Heat all of the way back in 1995.
