Rogue One box-office: The first stand-alone Star Wars movie becomes the second biggest opener in the United States and Canada.
Check out the Star Wars Rogue One box-office numbers in full below.
The simply awesome Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has opened to a whopping $290.5 million in its opening few days, making it the fourth-highest December opening of all-time.
The film, directed by Gareth Edwards, made $155 million domestically to become the second biggest December opening of all time, only beaten by last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Rogue One topped $21 million in the UK where it opened on Thursday to really positive reviews.
We were quite favourable too:
“Definitely bettering The Force Awakens, and up there with the gritty darkness of The Empire Strike Back, this is the Star Wars like the ones that we’ve grown up with. It feels right, it looks right, and it damn well hits with a punch that almost certainly leaves you having left a definitive impact once those credits roll, largely thanks to a supremely relentless third act.”
Here’s how the film performed around the world, where it has already opened in 52 other territories outside the U.S. and Canada.
UK $21.0M
Germany $12.5M
Australia $10.8M
France $10.0M
Japan $7.9M
Russia $5.6M
Brazil $5.3M
Mexico $5.1M
Spain $4.5M
Sweden $3.5M
Italy $3.1M
The film is yet to open in Korea (December 28th) and China (January 6th). Those are two potentially huge markets, which will bump up the numbers even more.
Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker star in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is now playing, courtesy of the fine folks at the Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, in a theatre near you.
More on the Rogue One box-office as the dollars continue to roll in throughout next week and beyonf.
