Dick Van Dyke will appear in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’

Confirming earlier rumours, film legend Dick Van Dyke has confirmed that he is set to have a role in the forthcoming Mary Poppins sequel Mary Poppins Returns.

There have been rumours all year that the screen veteran would join the original Mary Poppins, Julie Andrews, in the production, which starts shooting next year.

Here’s what Dick Van Dyke had to say to The Hollywood Reporter:

“This one supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up. It’s a great cast — Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy [Lin-Manuel Miranda] from Hamilton.”

We don’t know how big a role the 91-year-old will have in the film, or whether itt will be limited to a cameo, but we love the fact that he’s involved in any way.

Emily Blunt plays the title character in the new film, which will be directed by Rob Marshall. Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Colin Firth also star.

Mary Poppins Returns will be released on Christmas Day, 2018, so a little ways to go before we’ll see anything on screen.
