With so much money and influence at their disposal, most of us would assume that celebrities have outrageous, borderline bizarre hobbies. Well, who could blame us especially when it’s well known that Angelina Jolie collects daggers and Johnny Depp plays with Barbie Dolls. Still, not all celebrity hobbies are unnervingly odd. In fact, some of them are really quite normal.
Catherine Zeta Jones: Bingo Enthusiast
Catherine Zeta Jones’ love for bingo actually began many decades ago in the valleys of Wales after her father won £100,000 during a game. To this day, she continues to host ‘bingo parties’ for her close family and friends with the help of her husband Michael Douglas. She has even taught her children how to play the US version of bingo, possibly because the 75-ball game is a little easier to grasp.
Bingo actually lost its “old lady” feel when it started to be playable online and on the go. With its great social aspect it is no surprise that it’s been taken up by celebrities like Kate Moss, Robbie Williams and Sharon Osbourne. Mobile bingo brands have indeed made sure that they appeal to the widest audience possible, with sites like PocketWin allowing players to make a bingo deposit by phone bill, whilst some brands have individual apps for each and every game. Needless to say: bingo is big.
Ryan Gosling: Knitting King
Back in 2013, our beloved Ryan Gosling told GQ Australia that he absolutely loves to knit. During the interview, he said that he had learned how to knit from “old ladies” whilst on set for his 2007 film Lars and the Real Girl. “I did this scene where I was in a room full of old ladies who were knitting,” Gosling explained, “and it was an all-day scene, so they showed me how. It was one of the most relaxing days of my life.”
Of course, he fell in love with the hobby and has said that if he could design his perfect day, it would revolve around knitting. Plus, he seems to enjoy the fact you get a present at the end of it, like a new scarf or some mittens. Christina Hendricks, Meryl Streep and Scarlett Johansson are just a few other celebrities who love to knit, and we think our perfect day would be sitting around knitting with all these celebs.
Liam Neeson: Fishing Fanatic
Liam Neeson has recently made a comeback by starring in movies such as Taken, Unknown and Non-Stop. It seems that he has entered the same category of actors as Bruce Willis, in that he often plays an older action star.
This new career route is both perfect and odd considering his favorite hobby. Every year, Neeson takes at least two months off from acting to indulge in his hobbies. Mainly, this includes traveling to different parts of the North America to go fishing. Whilst this is definitely one of the most chilled-out hobbies one can think of, it doesn’t quite have the action you’d expect from Neeson, especially since he says his special move whilst fishing is patience.
So, next time you’re playing online bingo, knitting or fishing, remember that there are celebrities out there who would happily join you. In fact, they could be indulging in your shared favorite hobbies right now.
