Mary Poppins Returns photos: Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda spotting in cebtral London.
Mary Poppins Returns has been filming in London for a few weeks now, mostly within the tight, highly secured compounds of Shepperton Studios just outside of the city, but at the weekend, cameras started to roll in the city itself, specifically the Bank area of the square mile. Check out the Mary Poppins Returns photos below.
During the week, this is probably one of the busiest areas of town with businessmen and bankers amongst the hustle and bustle, but on Sunday (March 4), Emily Blunt and co. were spotted in the area shooting the sequel to the most beloved of Disney’s live-action movies. It looks like the filmmakers have had some period London buses and automobiles into town for the shoot, which was taking place outside the iconic Bank Of England.
The Mary Poppins Returns photos also gave us our first glimpse of Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s character, a lamplighter named Jack. The Hamilton and Moana actor was spotted on set in full costume, which you’ll also be able to see in the set-images below.
Mary Poppins Returns will arrive in cinemas on Christmas Day, 2018, and will also feature the acting talents of Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Julie Walters with Colin Firth and Meryl Streep. In addition, Dick Van Dyke plays Mr. Dawes Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, which is now run by William Weatherall Wilkins (Firth), while Angela Lansbury and original Mary Poppins Julie Andrews will also make appearances.
Mary Poppins Returns is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).
Check out the very first official image of Blunt as Mary Poppins on our post from late Friday, and the rest of the on-set Mary Poppins Returns photos and video below.
