Schedule conflicts force Amy Schumer to leave ‘Barbie’ film

Amy Schumer will next be seen in Snatched, where she will star alongside Goldie Hawn. It’s hoped that the film will be a massive success, with a lengthy press tour pencilled in. This commitment has meant that the star has had to pull out of the forthcoming Barbie film.

Slated for release on 29th June 2018, production is due to begin this June, and that’s where the problem lies. The start date lands directly when Schumer will be busy doing promotion for Snatched, as well as shooting the upcoming She Came to Me. Schumer was excited to be part of the project and has released a statement highlighting her disappointment that she has had to pass up the opportunity:

“Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts. The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

The film itself looks set to follow the Enchanted formula, with the heroine being exiled to the real world from Barbieland for not being ‘perfect’ enough.

A replacement for Schumer has not yet been announced.
