Rooney Mara & Casey Affleck star in ‘A Ghost Story’ trailer

Fresh off of his Oscar win, Casey Afleck heads up the trailer for new movie: A Ghost Story, starring alongside Rooney Mara. The film is not quite the horror film that you might be thinking. Granted it’s from the studio behind The Witch, but the trailer points to something very indie, intimate and thoughtful.

Directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), A Ghost Story is described on its website as being a ‘singular exploration of legacy, loss, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection.’ So yeah, very arthouse. A full synopsis is included below:

Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost (Academy Award-winner Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Academy Award-nominee Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence. An unforgettable meditation on love and grief, A Ghost Story emerges ecstatic and surreal—a wholly-unique experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

A Ghost Story will release in U.S cinemas on 7th July, with a UK date still to be confirmed.
