The BAFTA TV awards nominations were announced this morning in London, and Netflix‘s stunning $100 million TV series The Crown has topped the list with no less than five nods, four of them in the acting categories. Claire Foy received a nomination for Leading Actress as Queen Elizabeth II, while Jared Harris and John Lithgow were both listed in the nominations for Supporting Actor, and Vanessa Kirby for Supporting Actress. The show also received a nod in the Best Drama Series category.
A big disappointment was BBC One’s adaptation of John Le Carré’s The Night Manager, which only managed to secure one nod for Tom Hollander’s supporting role as henchman Corky in the acclaimed mini-series. The series’ Olivia Colman did bag a nomination however, for Best Actress in a Comedy for BBC Three’s Fleabag.
Benedict Cumberbatch bagged a Leading Actor mention for BBC Two’s The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses, which also received a nod for Miniseries.
Other nominations for Best Drama include The Durrells, BBC One’s Happy Valley, and BBC One’s War And Peace.
In the international category, HBO’s The Night Of, FX’s The People V OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, Netflix’s Stranger Things and Amazon’s Transparent all god a mention.
The Great British Bake-Off‘s Sue Perkins will host the BAFTA TV Awards in London on May 14.
Here is the full list of nominees.
