Labyrinth reboot planned with Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez directing

Labyrinth, starring David Bowie

Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead helmer Fede Alvarez is reportedly looking to reboot the classic Jim Henson’s 1986 movie Labyrinth for modern audiences. The new film will apparently not be a remake, but will take place in the same universe as the original film, which of course starred the late, great David Bowie.

The film is set up at Sony Pictures where Alvarez is actively working on new ‘Dragon Tattoo’ movie with The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

“’Labyrinth’ is one of the seminal movies from my childhood that made me fall in love with filmmaking,” said Alvarez. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to expand on Jim Henson’s mesmerizing universe, and take a new generation of moviegoers back into the Labyrinth.”

Alvarez has brought in writer Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent) to co-write the film with him a. Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman was initially brought on to pen the film but that seems to have changed now. Lisa Henson will produce the film for The Henson Company.

The original film followed teenager Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) who journeys through a maze to recover her baby brother (Toby Froud) from a goblin king (David Bowie).

There’s no ETA for the spin-off but we’re expecting it to be a little while away asThe Girl in the Spider’s Web will definitely go first. More as we get it.
