R.I.P. Jonathan Demme; Silence Of The Lambs director dies aged 73

Jonathan Demme, the Oscar-winner director of The Silence Of The Lambs has sadly passed away at the age of 73. According to Deadline, the filmmaker died from esophageal cancer and complications from heart disease at 3.30am New York time with his family around him.

Demme was also responsible for the Oscar-winning Philadelphia starring Tom Hanks as well as other films like Melvin and HowardSwing Shift, Something Wild and Married to the Mob. His earlier work included working alongside B-movie legend Roger Corman, when he co-wrote and produced both Angels Hard as They Come and Hot Box.

The filmmaker’s last feature was last year’s documentary/ concert film Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids, which debuted at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival, before hitting a wide audience on Netflix.

He is survived by his wife Joanne Howard, and their three children Jos, Brooklyn and Ramona.
