Marvel’s continued partnership with Netlix has had varying levels of critical success over the past couple of years. While Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have been praised for their adult, character-driven storytelling, Iron Fist recently received heavy criticism for white-washing, and over-reliance on racial stereotypes. Regardless of this, each series has catered to its own unique demographic, that has resulted in incredibly high viewership for all four shows.
Now, Marvel is attempting their own ambitious Avengers-style crossover between the four shows. The Defenders will bring together New York’s finest street-level superheroes against a new threat, for an epic eight episode television event. Now, we finally have the first trailer, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint! Check it out below:
The Defenders will be released on Netflix August 18th 2017. The series stars Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Élodie Yung, Sigourney Weaver, Eka Darville, Simone Missick, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Scott Glenn, Rachael Taylor, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Henwick and Marko Zaror.
