If you love the blood-sucking creatures of the night and you can’t get enough of these horrifying yet beautiful immortal beings, you’ve no doubt seen all the fang-tastic shows that television has to offer…or have you?
Some of the best TV shows feature more than just vampires
Did you know that some of the greatest television shows with the beautiful undead don’t actually have the word “Vampire” in their titles? Take Penny Dreadful for example. This show was rated number1 on IMDB’s list of best vampire TV series. Why? It’s dark, it’s macabre, and its set in Victorian London. While the show does feature a main Dracula-vampire storyline, what’s even more interesting is it is a mashup of several grisly horror tales from actual books that were once sold for a penny in London. These books became very popular and were known as penny dreadfuls. The show is fun, suspenseful, surprising and isn’t afraid to wander into dark places.
HBO”s True Blood is also a must-see. Based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series by Charlaine Harris, True Blood is a gruesome, dark-humored and outrageous show that follows telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her adventures in the supernatural world.
Other spectacular shows you will want to add to your watch list are: The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Death Valley, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dark Shadows, American Horror Story, Being Human, Kindred: The Embraced and Ultraviolet.
Anne Rice’s vampires could soon be on TV
Of course, the shows that are currently available to watch aren’t the only ones getting true vampire lovers excited! Soon enough there will be even more incredible vampire-themed shows coming to TV. Possibly the most exciting news is that Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles will become a TV show.
The famed author of The Vampire Chronicles, who is considered by many vamp fans to be one of the best of the undead’s storytellers, has reportedly joined Paramount TV and Anonymous Content, along with her son Christopher Rice, to produce a show based on the characters in her vampire universe. Of course, one of the most central characters to the show would be Rice’s most famous vampire, Lestat.
“In this unique golden age of television, I couldn’t ask for a finer or more passionate team to help bring my beloved vampire hero, Lestat, alive in a series of the highest quality,” Rice said in a statement regarding the future TV show.
Although it’s not yet known when this TV show will debut, until then, vampire fans can tide themselves over by sinking their teeth into the numerous other vampire television series currently available to watch. Happy hunting!
