The Crown over on Netflix has been a huge success both critically and with the fans – it has even picked up a slew of awards, including a Golden Globe earlier this year for actress Claire Foy, who plays the young Queen Elizabeth. While the series got a bit of a snub at this weekend’s BAFTA TV Awards in London, it looks like Foy may be make a jump to film for her next role.
Claire Foy
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Foy may assume the role made famous by Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara – the ‘Girl’ known as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl In The Spider’s Web.
Sony Pictures are planning an adaptation of the David Lagercrantz book of the same name which Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead helmer Fede Alvarez is attached to direct. Apparently Foy has an official offer but there may be some dreaded ‘Scheduling Conflicts’ to deal with. Felicity Jones was also reportedly linked with the high-profile part.
Here’s the plot from the source material.
Late one night, Blomkvist receives a phone call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker—a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it…
The ‘Girl books, originally penned by the late Stieg Larsson, were previously adapted into The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest and The Girl Who Played With Fire, all of which saw Naomi Rapace make her portrayal of Salkander into a career-defining role. Rooney Mara assumed the role in the David Fincher-directed American remake.
The Girl In The Spider’s Web will apparently reboot the franchise over at Sony. More as we get it.
