It’s safe to say that Alien: Covenant split audiences when it was released earlier this year. Personally, I really liked Ridley Scott’s latest visit to the franchise he started back in the 1970s, but I know a lot of people that didn’t. Still, that’s the best thing about film and because the film is hurtling towards a small profit (it has currently made around $170 million worldwide from a reported $98 million budget), we’re still potentially in for more instalments in the future.
The previous film was of course Prometheus, and its writer Damon Lindelof has been speaking to the website Collider and hinted as to where Ridley and co. could take things in the Alien world going forward.
Here’s what he had to say:
“I think that one of the conversations that we had at the end of ‘Prometheus’ is, Shaw and David have basically locked in on the coordinates of the planet where the Engineers came from. What does that place look like? Ridley called it Paradise. What happens when they land on that planet? It doesn’t feel like they’ve gotten there yet in ‘Covenant.’
‘Covenant’ felt like it maybe was a detour prior to them arriving at the place of origin so I don’t want to spoil any place that he might still be wanting to go, but the conversations that he and I had about where the story goes next were largely about the place where the Engineers were from and less the events of ‘Covenant’.”
There has been no word on when the next sequel will arrive because it hasn’t officially been green-lit yet (it will depend on those all-important numbers), but we’ll keep you posted.
