Neil Marshall
Neil Marshall’s planned Hellboy reboot sent fans into a bit of a frenzy last month when it was announced, before heading off to the Cannes Film Festival for pre-sales, and now the respected horror filmmaker behind the links has been speaking up his plans for the redo.
Marshall, who is also behind some of the best Game Of Thrones episodes, spoke on Mick Garris’ Post Mortem podcast, about how he will approach the movie. This via Bloody Disgusting.
“We’ve been granted permission to do it R-rated, which for me is just like taking the cuffs off. It’s like, okay, so now we can just make the movie we want to make. Nobody’s going to stop us. So, that’s the main (difference). And I’m sure, obviously, the success of things like Deadpool and Logan have not hurt that cause. But, also, when you go back the original material, it is kind of bloody, so I’m going to embrace that.”

So, that’s great news then. Marshall also said that they will be staying away from CGI as much as possible too.
“It’s definitely going to be as practical as we can possibly make it. I love to do stuff in camera whenever I possibly can, and use CG as the amazing tool that it is, to enhance or expand upon the world, but not to use it to replace reality, when you can do it (for) real.”
Again, super good news. Marshall is also behind the likes of The Descent, Dog Soldiers, Doomsday and Centurion, so with that back catalogue, and his comments above, should fill you with tons of confidence.
The Hellboy reboot will see David Harbour in the title role and will arrive sometime next year. Its full title is Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen.
