Rejoice! A ‘Deep Blue Sea 2’ Is On The Way!

Various websites are reporting that a Deep Blue Sea 2 is on the way and it is filming right now. The origin for the story seems to be Moviehole who report that Darin Scott (House Party : Tonight’s the Night) has been shooting the film in Cape Town for a little while now and that we should see it pop up on the Syfy network, so don’t expect any of the original players to return. We do know that the aptly named Michael Beach, who will appear in Aquaman, is amongst the cast. More on the Deep Blue Sea sequel below.

Deep Blue Sea sequel on the way from the Syfy network!

The first Deep Blue Sea, which was directed by Renny Harlin, was released in cinemas all of the way back in 1999 with Samuel L. Jackson and Thomas Jane amongst its cast. If you’ve forgot what it was all about, here’s a recap.

On an island research facility, Dr. Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows) is harvesting the brain tissue of DNA-altered sharks as a possible cure for Alzheimer’s disease. When the facility’s backers send an executive (Samuel L. Jackson) to investigate the experiments, a routine procedure goes awry and a shark starts attacking the researchers. Now, with sharks outnumbering their human captors, McAlester and her team must figure out a way to stop them from escaping to the ocean and breeding.

The $60 million movie became a cult classic and brought in over $164 million at the global box-office. It also found solid ground on the home markets shortly after its cinema release.
