Paramount Pictures have finally announced the release date for Top Gun 2. The film, which is titled Top Gun: Maverick, will debut in cinemas on July 12th, 2019, according to Deadline. The same source has also confirmed that the film will be directed by none other than Joseph Kosinski, which was previously rumoured a number of weeks ago. More on the Top Gun 2 release date and further sequel news below.
Top Gun 2 release date firmed up: The film will land in the summer of 2019.
The trade blog states that the film will see Tom Cruise reprise his role as Maverick, now a flight instructor teaching the young macho pilots how to do it. Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the original 1986 film’s producers, will also return for some more high-octane action.

The screenplay is being written by Peter Craig and Justin Marks, along with Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz.
The first film, a contributing force in Cruise’s rise to the top of Hollywood’s list of leading movie stars, was released in 1986 and directed by the late, great Tony Scott. A sequel to the film has been long in the running, but plans were shelved in 2012 when Scott sadly passed away.
Cruise is very busy. The Mummy was just released in cinemas and he has American Made, his new film with Doug Liman due next month. He’s currently in New Zealand shooting the next instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise and he also has plans to do a sequel to another of his recent big hits, Edge Of Tomorrow, which is reportedly being called Live Die Repeat and Repeat.
There are no further details except for the Top Gun 2 release date news, and indeed no mention of further cast members or returnees from the first film.
