Edgar Wright Talks Up A Potential Sequel To ‘Baby Driver’

He’s currently hot stuff at the box-office with his new movie Baby Driver, but director Edgar Wright has already been talking up sequels. Speaking to the Empire podcast, the British filmmaker said that he would definitely be up for a Baby Driver sequel as there’s a lot of potential in the character. More on the Baby Driver sequel below.

Baby Driver sequel could be in the works – says Edgar Wright

“The studio have asked me to think about writing a sequel and it is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there’s somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters,” Wright said to Empire. “Baby has got to a new place.”

He went into more detail as to where the story could lead.

“Most sequels you have to contrive something so they go back to square one, unless there’s somewhere deeper for them to go. I think with Baby Driver there’s more that you can do in that realm, and I sort of have an idea that if you did another [film] you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he’s not the apprentice anymore.”

The film is certainly one of the most original films playing in cinemas at the moment, and indeed all year.

Wright wrote and directed the new film, which stars Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. The story follows Elgort’s character Baby, a young getaway driver who is coerced into working for a kingpin. We reviewed the film on the site back last week and had nothing but kind words to say about it. It was also warmly received by critics around the world, something that translated into a decent opening at the box-office. It has already taken $42 million globally from a reported budget of just $34 million – and that is in a matter of days. A Baby Driver sequel is more than warranted.
