New Beginning: Matt Reeves Will Discard Ben Affleck’s ‘Batman’ Script

Matt Reeves, who is currently the talk of the town with his extremely well-reviewed War For The Planet Of The Apes, will reportedly discard all previous screenplays for The Batman, so reports MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. Reeves will start work on The Batman with a fresh screenplay, thus putting aside the previous incarnation scripted by Ben Affleck, Chris Terrio and DC’s Geoff Johns.

“No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool,” Reeves told the outlet.

One thing is for certain: Ben Affleck will return to play the title character and Bruce Wayner, while it is also evident that key supporting characters, including Jeremy Irons as Alfred, will also be involved.

Affleck’s script reportedly featured the villain Deathstroke, who was supposed to be being played by Magic Mike‘s Joe Manganiello, and it’s not certain at this stage as to whether the character would be in Reeves’ version of The Batman.

Shooting on the stand-alone Batman film will kick off in early 2018. The character will next be seen in the ensemble Justice League, which debuts in cinemas later this year. It is expected to have a huge presence at the San Diego Comic Con next weekend.
