The first reviews for the upcoming Sony Pictures animated movie The Emoji Movie have arrived, and it’s not good news. The film currently has a 0% rating on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes with the average review scoring 2.2/10.
Alonso Duralde from TheWrap wrote: “Lacks humor, wit, ideas, visual style, compelling performances, a point of view or any other distinguishing characteristic that would make it anything but a complete waste of your time.”

The Emoji Movie follows Hi-5, sidekick to hero Gene (voiced by T.J. Miller),who embarks on an epic quest to fix the fact that — unlike all of his emoji compatriots, who boast only a single expression — he has no filter and can make whatever face he likes. The film arrives in U.S. cinemas from today, and in the U.K. from next weekend.
