Ever been stuck in date where you have nothing in common with the other person? If your answer is “yes”, then you are one of the many thousand people who have, at some point in their life, gone on a date where they wished that an asteroid strike their location and end their misery. Why do so many people feel that on a date? That’s because they have no way of finding out if the other person is on the same page as them or shares their interest or is even capable of holding a decent conversation. That’s where online dating comes in. By the way, you may read more on the topic in this hily dating review.
OK, there are a LOT of online dating websites. But the common principle behind every site is that you chat with a person that you fancied, get to know them and then decide if a proper date is in order. So you see, a lot of time and effort is saved…or is it?
Some websites are better than others, in some aspects at least. Choosing the right website is actually quite important because you could spend all your time on the “wrong” site and get nothing in return. How do you find the right website for you? How would I know? You know yourself better, I hope. But what I can tell you is something about this online dating website called Hily.com. Careful, it’s “Hily”, not “Hilly”. You don’t want to end up on a website full of pictures of mountains.
I think I answered the “What” part of the question mentioned in the title. The “why” is pretty simple actually. No, I am not asking an existential question about a dating website. I am just trying to draw your focus to why a website like hily exists in this hoi polloi of dating websites. Firstly, it’s relatively new, came up a few weeks ago and it utilizes some of the success formula of every other dating service while adding a bit of a twist of its own here and there. Ever been so frustrated of an app like Tinder where you have to wait for hours to get more “likes” to send out. Well, hily gives you unlimited “likes”. The catch? None; except that you have to be likable enough in the eyes of the other person. I mean, c’mon, it’s a dating website, not an online soup kitchen for the “dateless”.
I know that you need more information to go on. And that’s exactly what I am going to do. The purpose of this hily dating site review is to pick and choose some of it’s features that you may find cool. Like I said, hily, like any other website, may or may not be the one for you but I do feel that some of its features are superior to many sites that I have used.
How does hily work?
There is a lot of stuff going on in Hily. Let me try and summarize some key features of it:
- Unlimited “likes”
- Easy to navigate
- Registration is easy and free
- Protection against scammers and spammers
So hily kind of works and feels like a Tinder 2.0. If you are not aware of Tinder, I would suggest you to go out occasionally and talk to people. You can “like” or “dislike” other people’s profiles and you also have the concept of “mutual likes”. One key difference is, as I mentioned earlier, there is no limit on the number of “likes”. You could start in the morning, liking every profile in view and continue throughout the night (if there are enough profiles for that). Hily has an app too, like every other website on the internet today.
Signing up to hily is pretty easy really. You visit the website, click on the “sign up” button and follow the steps:
Step 1:
- Enter name
- Enter email ID
- Create password
- Select your gender
Step 2:
Here, you just enter your birthdate. No need to hide your age here, ladies and gentlemen.
Step 3:
You have to provide your zip code here. Don’t worry, you are not giving out your address or anything like that. This is actually another feature of Hily. It shows you profiles of people nearby based on your location which is determined through your zip code. You do want to go on a real date, don’t you. And I believe that you don’t want to drive 500 km for that.
Step 4:
Finally, you have to provide a profile photo. This is exactly what it sounds like. A picture for your profile; a picture representing you. Don’t put up a pic of you with your ex. Might be a turnoff for potential dates.
You go through all these steps, verify your email and BAM! You are done.
Tips for beginners; out of the generosity of my heart
Repeat after me: ‘The key to getting a date on hily is “mutual likes”.’ Print this statement out, put it on your fridge or something. Now, some may disagree saying that the key is to impress the other person which comes after getting a mutual like. I beg to differ because if you have a “mutual like” in this competitive world of online dating, the other person is already impressed by you. But getting that elusive mutual like is an “uphil” challenge (get it? Yes, that’s why I was lonely was so long).
The sad thing about it is that you cannot do much if you don’t get a mutual like. So first things first, take your profile seriously. Decorate it, make it nice and shiny. At the same time, don’t go overboard. Find that sweet spot. Then, there are some settings that you must fiddle with. You can go and select some filters to be applied to the profiles that you will be shown. The two filters currently available are:
- Gender
- Age
Now this is where hily let me down. I mean, you go on Amazon and have, like, 10 different filters. Really helps narrow down your search, if you know what I mean. Next, you should go and have a look at your general settings. You need to click on the three dots next to your profile picture and select “Settings”. Then you have to click on “Personal”. The only options that you should be concerned about are these:
Let me list out the various choices for every option here:
Status in relationship:
- Single
- Married
- Divorced
- In an open relationship
- Seeing someone
- Widowed
- Separated
- Tell you later
Type of a relationship:
- Monogamous
- Polygamous
Purpose on the site
- Long term dating
- Short term dating
- New friends (This one’s definitely not for me. I have been friendzoned plenty of times already)
- Chat
Select the choices that apply to you. Be honest!
You just got a mutual like! What next?
Don’t panic. Breathe. Be cool. You got this. You have won half of the battle by getting a mutual like. The other half depends on your texting skills. Because, now you have access to the message interface on Hily. You should be familiar with it. If you have ever been on any social media website, then you are all set. On hily, you can send photos and GIFs to the other person. You do have tonnes of GIFs to choose from but you don’t have, get this, emojis. So you better get used to using the GIFs to express yourself.
Start with a simple “Hello”. Keep it plain. All the ladies have heard all the pickup lines. Then proceed to tell them what you liked about their profile and them. This is a good conversation starter. You may have something in common, use that to your advantage. Unlike a blind date in real life, you are already halfway towards being on the same page. Now, don’t be a creep. Don’t pressurize them into dating you. Have it go slowly and gradually. Remember, the sad truth is that you may just be one of the many mutual likes of the other person. But don’t come across as desperate. Stay strong, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Hily: Yay or Nay?
You tell me. I have given you a rundown of the the dating website. It is simple to use, has all the necessary features of a dating website, has some additional features that make it stand out from the crowd and has some limitations as well. You need to weigh the pros and cons of the site. Think of what features are more valuable to you. Now see if Hily has those. If you stuck with me throughout this review, you are now an informed person and are perfectly capable of using hily to meet new people.
